Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do I need to do to be ranked?

    • All you need to do is compete in one of the races we cover. Currently, rankings include just races that were sprint or standard distance.

    • Competing in any of the following should see you ranked:

GB Age Group Team Qualifiers

Age Group World or European Championships

Elite European and World Duathlon Championships

British Championships

English, Welsh or Scottish National Championships

Elite World Triathlon Series

Elite World or European Cup Races

Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Test Events

British Super Series Races

Welsh Super Series

Mass participation events such as Blenheim / JLL Property / London Triathlon

Select local events which publish results in 5 year age-groups

  • The rankings say I am in the 30-34AG but I'm actually in the 35-39AG. Why?

    • The rankings are a 12 month rolling ranking which means they cover two calendar years at any one time. You might have been in a different age group 12 months ago than today. Once you register your first result in your new age-group you will move up an age-group in the rankings. Until you register your first result in your new age-category you will be listed in your previous one.

  • Why did my ranking score just go down!?

    • Your score is an average of your best two performances within the last 12 months. If you only have a single result it is an average of 1. If your second result is better than your first result it will improve your ranking and vice versa.

    • It could also be because one of your better results recently became more than 12 months old and thus began to no longer count towards your ranking.

  • My duathlon scores are higher than my triathlon scores but I'm actually better at triathlon. Why is this? â€‹â€‹

    • All triathlon scores are calculated relative the the 2023 GB Triathlon Number #1 (Alex Yee / Beth Potter). All duathlon scores are calculated relative to the 2023 GB Duathlon #1 (James Teagle / Emma Pallant-Browne).

    • Our data suggests that Alex Yee and Beth Potter were performing at a slightly higher level than James Teagle and Emma Pallant-Browne at short course racing during the 2023 season.

    • The consequence of this, is triathlon scores tend to be a bit lower than comparable duathlon scores. Duathlon scores are only comparable to other duathlon scores and vice-versa.

  • Why can I see myself twice in the rankings?

    • If this happens please tell us at info@mytriranking.com! It's often because your name is displayed differently on different race results sheets. Eg Beth Jones vs Bethan Jones.

    • There is logic in the system to try to match individuals even if they sometimes use short forms of their name. But it's not perfect so tell us and we will use your feedback to improve it.

    • If you want to be safe, enter your next race with the same name we currently have for you!

    • This will also happen if you have recently got married and changed your name. So please also tell us about that!

  • Why is my age-group listed as 'No Data'?

    • Some results sheets don't contain age-group data (or contain data not in 5 year age-groups). In these cases, we try to derive your age-group by cross referencing against other results. However, it's not always possible to find a match if you only have a single race result among the races we cover. So get in touch and let us know.

  • Someone is ranked higher than me, but if we raced 100% I'd beat them!

    • The rankings are based on how close each athlete came to the time the 2023 GB number one would be expected to have posted on an average day for them were they to have participated in the race. It is not a prediction of who would win in a head to head battle between individuals.

    • As the ranking is based on the average of each athlete's best two results (where available), the rankings favour good days over consistency. Athletes who can pull it out the bag once or twice a year rank well, even if they race poorly the rest of the time!

    • Also because the results combine sprint and standard distance an athlete ranked higher might be a sprint specialist whilst you prefer standard.

  • Is it possible to get a ranking of over 1000?

    • Yes! If you turn up to a race tomorrow and race faster than the GB number one would have done on an average day for them in 2023 - you will score more than 1000 points.  The beauty of the system is it doesn't matter what race you choose to do, it's only the performance that matters not the prestige of the event.

  • What do you use to produce the results?

    • The rankings themselves are processed using PhixFlow and they are stored and presented on this website built with Wix.

  • Who made the rankings?

    • MyTriRanking is a collaboration between Will Senior who came up with the idea and website for MyTriRanking and David Pearson from Age Group News who coded the ranking system. We are both Age Group Triathletes based in the UK.

  • What about other distances of triathlon and duathlon?

    • To start with we are piloting rankings for Sprint/Standard Triathlon and Duathlon. If this is a success we may look to add new rankings for longer distance events or even other sports like aquathlon.

  • Can I be removed from the rankings?

    • Yes, just let us know. Your name in the rankings will be replaced with "Anonymous athlete" the next time they update.

  • Where does the data come from?

    • The data comes from result sheets that are publicly available online. You can click on the name of any race on your profile to be taken to it's original source. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions here for more details on data.
