What types of cookies do we use?

There are generally four categories of cookies: “Strictly Necessary,” “Performance,” “Functionality,” and “Targeting.” My Tri Ranking routinely uses all four categories of cookies on the Service. You can find out more about each cookie category below.

  1. Strictly Necessary Cookies. These cookies are essential, as they enable you to move around the Service and use its features, such as accessing logged in or secure areas.

  2. Performance Cookies. These cookies collect information about how you have used the Service, for example, information related to the unique username you have provided, so that less strain is placed on our backend infrastructure. These cookies may also be used to allow us to know that you have logged in so that we can serve you fresher content than a user who has never logged in. We also use cookies to track aggregate Service usage and experiment with new features and changes on the Service. The information collected is used to improve how the Service works.

  3. Functionality Cookies. These cookies allow us to remember how you’re logged in, whether you chose to no longer see advertisements, whether you made an edit to an article on the Service while logged out, when you logged in or out, the state or history of Service tools you’ve used. These cookies also allow us to tailor the Service to provide enhanced features and content for you and to remember how you’ve customised the Service in other ways, such as customising the toolbars we offer in the right column of every page. The information these cookies collect may be anonymous, and they are not used to track your browsing activity on other sites or services.

  4. Targeting Cookies. My Tri Ranking, our advertising partners or other third party partners may use these types of cookies to deliver advertising that is relevant to your interests. These cookies can remember that your device has visited a site or service, and may also be able to track your device’s browsing activity on other sites or services other than My Tri Ranking. This information may be shared with organisations outside My Tri Ranking, such as advertisers and/or advertising networks to deliver the advertising, and to help measure.

How long will cookies stay on my device?

The length of time a cookie will stay on your computer or mobile device depends on whether it is a “persistent” or “session” cookie. Session cookies will only stay on your device until you stop browsing. Persistent cookies stay on your computer or mobile device until they expire or are deleted. All major browsers offer you options to control your cookie preferences.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • Email address – this is provided by you the user when you register to create an account with My Tri Ranking. Your email address will remain as your primary account identifier for the duration of your time as a registered My Tri Ranking user. We do not share your email address with other companies or third parties without your additional and explicit consent. The user has the ability to delete their account and associated email address.

  • Date of birth – this is entirely optional additional information which a user may or may not choose to add to their My Tri Ranking profile. Once a user has registered, the user has the ability to add their date of birth. We will never directly surface exact date of birth for public viewing. Date of birth information may be used to improve ranking outputs (e.g. validate if the user shows in the correct 5 year age band in ranking outputs).

  • [Coming soon] Link to Strava profile – this is entirely optional additional information which a user may or may not choose to add to their My Tri Ranking profile. If the user does choose to add this information and has a public account then it will show on their athlete profile page. The user has the ability to delete or amend this information at any point.

  • [Coming soon] Link to Instagram profile – this is entirely optional additional information which a user may or may not choose to add to their My Tri Ranking profile. If the user does choose to add this information and has a public account then it will show on their athlete profile page. The user has the ability to delete or amend this information at any point.

We also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • Athlete names, athlete age-groups (most commonly displayed in 5 year bands (e.g. 40-44) and athlete gender or gender category (as categorised by race result providers). – historical triathlon race results are compiled from a range of publicly available sources. Although this information is already publicly available, we may occasionally augment publicly available information with additional information shared with us by race providers (who will have obtained your consent to share such information with third parties), such as more precise age-group information.

Your controls over data

  • By choosing to register to create an account on MyTriRanking.com, you reaffirm your consent for us to compile your race results (past and future) from publicly available sources and then include you within our rankings. Users can contact us, via the methods mentioned above, to delete their registration to MyTriRanking.com.

  • Users have complete control over the data which they want to add within our 'MyAccount' page. It is also our default setting that this information is not showed publicly. Users have the choice, at any time, to toggle the privacy setting between private and public within 'MyAccount'.

  • Individuals also have the right to request, via the contact methods outlined above, that their name (and associated information) be anonymised on or removed entirely from MyTriRanking.com. You do not need to have registered for any account on MyTriRanking.com to make this request. We have no ability to make adjustments to your information which is already displaying publicly on other websites (e.g. race result providers).
